Each report now shows where the outlets that published a release appear in search results for the campaign's keywords, and which AI answer platforms cite those outlets as sources.
Placement reports previously listed where a release was published, along with the authority and estimated reach of each outlet. The added sections show whether those publications are found in search results for the keywords chosen for a campaign, and whether AI answer platforms use them as sources when answering related questions.
How Campaign Keywords Are Selected
The ranking and AI checks start from a keyword list built from the release itself. Candidate keywords are drawn from the headline, the body text and the brand name, and a language model reads the release to add product features, category terms and other phrases that simple word patterns can miss.
Every candidate then passes the same filter: it must contain the brand name or at least three consecutive words taken from the release. Generic terms that a single press release is unlikely to rank for are removed before any measurement takes place, and the remaining list is approved before the checks run.
Search Ranking Data
For each approved keyword, the report checks the top 100 organic search results and records the position of every result that belongs to an outlet carrying the release. Placements that reach the first page of results are highlighted, and positions are listed for each keyword.
The same scan records whether an AI-generated overview appeared at the top of the results for that keyword, and whether that overview drew on one of the publishing outlets.
AI Visibility Data
Keywords that return a ranking are then checked across four AI answer platforms: an AI search mode, two AI chat assistants and an AI answer engine. Limiting this round to keywords with a confirmed search presence keeps it focused on queries where the release has already been found.
When an AI answer lists one of the publishing outlets as a source, the report records a citation and names the outlet that was cited. When an answer names the brand without citing a publishing outlet, the report records a mention and shows it separately, so brand awareness in AI answers is not mixed with source citations.
Additional Pickup
Press releases are often republished beyond the outlets in the original distribution. The report searches a large web index for a distinctive phrase from the headline and lists the domains carrying it. Domains already in the placement list serve as an independent confirmation that those placements can be found, and the remaining domains are shown as additional pickup.
Because web indexes take time to register new pages, this section is most complete when the report is prepared several days after publication.
A Point-in-Time Record
Each report is built from measurements taken on a specific date, and that date is shown on the report as its verification date. Once a report is built, its figures do not change, so the numbers shared with clients, partners or investors match the numbers that were measured.
Outlet authority, traffic and global rank are recorded as a snapshot when the placements are collected. Outlets are grouped into three tiers by measured authority: premium for a score of 80 or above, major for 45 or above, and standard below that.

The ranking, AI visibility and pickup sections appear alongside the list of live publication links in each placement report. Reports are available as a web page with PDF, spreadsheet and plain-text exports, and a version without RedPress branding is available for agencies that deliver reports to their own clients.
